Techniques and Transformations in the Stories and Characters of Silappathikaram

    

Abstract

The stories depicted in the myths that are the treasury of thoughts of the ancient man, it seems ridiculous in today’s rational age but they speak of the events of ancient man. Although myths are the products of a certain period of time, some of them change over time.  This flexibility of myths leads to other transformations or rebuttals within the stories. These transformations and rebuttals inevitably develop as oral myths turn into written forms.  Although Tamil literature is ancient, supernatural phenomena are rarely found in it. Kannaki story is a unique work in the mythology of Tamil. We all know that it was changed from verbal to later literal. This is a myth that reflects the mother goddess worship after the Silappathikara period, the works have been transformed by various creators of Tamil into multi-level re-fictions, combining fictional concepts. This article briefly examines the techniques of the characters’ creation and transformed and reinvented of stories of Kannaki, Kovalan and Madhavi in Silappathikaram.
