A Study of Kinship in Tamil Proverbs
Abstract
Among the classical languages, Tamil is one of the oldest languages. We know that this Tamil language has a long literary history in itself. Leaving an indelible mark on the history of oral literature before the history of written literature; In today's modern world, many literatures have been created; Tamil language has got special merit.
Proverbs occupies a very important place in the oral literature that emerged from the life of the common people. Proverbs speak many things. Thus many proverbs are found based on social relations. They give many instructions and guidelines to the society both materially and figuratively. Along with that, some proverbs can be seen as humorous. So far no research efforts have been made regarding proverbs based on such social relations. This review has been carried out to resolve the deficiency. The main objective of this study is to introduce proverbs based on relationships. Also, the purpose of this study is to clarify the figurative and content aspects of the proverbs. Descriptive, comparative and linguistic approaches have been used in this study.
